Protagonists

Protagoniste (Protagonists) is a short film which focuses on the term ‘gynophobia’ and tells of the solidarity between two realities: to be a woman and to be a transsexual. What is gynophobia? Gynophobia is a persistent, abnormal and unjustified fear of women. This type of fear affects men who feel scared and threatened by the autonomy and freedom of women, which could limit men’s power.

Even in the world of work, women are still discriminated against today. In Italy, a significant disparity between men and women exists. According to the Global Gender Gap Index 2015, on gender disparity, Italy dropped to 111th place out of 136 countries, (behind African and Asian nations), creating considerable social imbalance between European States.

Solidarity in Protagoniste is emphasised between the Women’s and Transgender movements, in the fight against subordination and marginalisation in a chauvinistic world.

Two female souls, a woman and a transsexual, talk about the discrimination they have to face in our society.
